Kind of uncomfortable PDA

Last weekend we journeyed downtown to walk around and browse Reading Terminal Market (more on that, later). We had planned to buy some food to cook for dinner but we didn’t really find any. My sister suggested that we stop by Rittenhouse Square to see if we could find anything at the farmers’ market. I am becoming quite enchanted with these gatherings – especially in Pennsylvania because they usually feature my homefries, the Amish. ANYWAY.

The farmers’ market at the Square turned out not to be so great, but luckily, our trip was not in vain. As we were walking through the park, look what I spotted!

Yes, there were a group of people gathered offering free hugs. What a great idea! I usually have to pay for mine.

At first I thought this was cool, but when I got closer I noticed that the people were kinda funky looking. And no one else in the park was taking them up on their offer. I used my top-notch detective skills to further investigate the situation.

By this point my sister had left me to fend for myself, and my brother-in-law had taken hold of my camera in hopes that I’d follow through and get a hug. Before snapping the following picture, he asked if they “were Scientologists.” They said no, but I’m not so sure.

Success! I actually ended up getting three hugs. I think they ended up being more excited about it than I was. Philadelphians are freaky, man.

Just kidding. Kind of. Have you guys ever seen this kind of thing?
